Social Media Intern - Spring 2012

What the job is:

TVB is seeking a social media whizz who can help us create and develop a constant stream of content around our vendors, shoppers, markets and online community. You must live in Chicago.

We’re looking specifically for someone who can tackle two duties:

1 - Create meaty content for our blog, not by trolling the Internet and re-blogging tired ideas and articles, but by getting out on the streets and taking photos, interviewing people, and making new observations about stuff. We want to feature home tours, shop profiles, vendor interviews and more -- and you’d be the one creating them.

2 - Be responsible for the live stream of information we hope to produce about our market on the day it happens. We’re too busy running around getting our armpits sweaty on market day, so we want you to be responsible for uploading photos, quick videos, and posting content immediately to the Internet as the market is happening. We also want you to generate content from our market to edit into future videos and posts. Basically we want you to stick a camera in at least 15 people’s faces and make videos about what’s happening.

This internship is unpaid, requires 6-10 hours per week, and we’re happy to work with universities and institutions if you’re seeking college credit.

Who you (probably) are:

We're looking for an early adopter. Someone who understands all the social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+) and how they can be used to communicate with a willing audience. (We're not interested in trying to "trick" people using social and guerrilla tactics.)

You should know basic HTML and blogging platforms like Blogger and WordPress. You probably follow lots of blogs and participate in some online circles already, whether they’re related to TVB or not.

An interest in design, vintage, fashion, DIY, and culture in general is a must.

You should be able to do basic things like crop photos or design a basic document in Pages, Photoshop, GIMP, or Illustrator. (So for instance, if you need to place text over a photo, you can do that. We don’t care what program you use, you just need to be able to do it somehow.)

You should be able to operate a digital camera, download photos to your computer, and upload them to the Internet. The same with digital video. And you should be good at taking digital photos and video. In fact, you should send us a link to your Flickr, YouTube channel, or whatever, so we can see some examples of your work.

You must own and use a smart phone, as live Tweeting, Tumbling, etc. will be a requirement for this position.

You should have an interest and/or background in marketing and communications, and we're looking for someone with excellent writing skills.

Most importantly, you should have a great sense of humor, not take yourself too seriously, and you should be extremely comfortable being outgoing.

To apply:

Send your cover letter, resume, and some links to unique content you’ve created for the web to katherine [at] thevintagebazaar.com.
Please note: this internship is unpaid. For college credit or resume-building. Or just because.
