Guys, I would do just about anything to have an attached greenhouse and rooftop garden like Brontë’s in Green Card. Lush plants, a dining nook, and a fountain? Yes please.
(Set designed by John H. Anderson)
Oh and this skylight. Come on!
You can mock a greenhouse/garden style by loading up on plants and mixing in vintage finds. In fact, if you come out to TVB on June 10 you’ll find everything you need.

I met Melanie on Twitter. That’s a thing now, right? Either way, we are Twitter pals! So, I followed along as she and Dave navigated the first big remodeling project in their home. Then one day she posted a link to her Schoolhouse Electric lighting options and I sent her an excited DM asking her to share the final project with TVB. She said yes!
So, let’s check out how their bathroom went from this…

And this…

To this…

Your Names:
Melanie LaForce and Dave Abbott with Elsie the Dog, Emma the Dog, and Mikey the Foster Turtle. (Ed. note: You can catch Melanie on Twitter @rileycoyote.)
How Long Have You Lived Here?
In the house for 4 years, Logan Square for 6. Chicago for 11 years. Midwest 4 Life, mofos.
Why Logan Square?
We left Bucktown/Wicker Park in search of a less crowded hood and less expensive digs. We love where we are in Logan. There is a strong sense of family and community but we still get to be scene-y music/culture snobs when we want. Yeah that’s right. Take your hipster-loathing elsewhere, haters.

Y’all probably know Dean Fisher. She’s a former TVB house tour star and she has a super good blog, my little apartment, that should surely be in your Google Reader feed. But, did you know about her semi-new column SPACE in the Chicago Reader? In it Dean doles out design advice, profiles cool Chicago homes, and does budget makeovers that look like a million bucks.
This Sunday at The Vintage Bazaar Dean will be available to solve your design dilemmas or help you pick a between lamps IRL for free! She’ll set up camp in our lobby right near the bar — her booth will probably look a lot like this photo, actually.
So, let’s hear a little more about Dean and her plans for TVB and SPACE. Q & A after the jump!
I recently met up with Some Like Us owner, India McQuoid, in Bridgeport for some shop talk and a mini house tour. Our chat covered everything from dogs to small biz ownership to her tricks of the trade. There is a lot to cover so, first, I’ll give a run down of our chat then I’ll show off some photos of her home and finally… lay down a brief TVB vendor Q & A with photos of her wares — check it all after the jump!

Michelle Pauly, who runs the Chicago-based vintage clothing shop Yellowbirdd, was one of our first-ever vendors at the DANK Haus pop-up flea in February of last year.
Like many of you, she’s working full-time while running a pretty kick-ass vintage business out of one bedroom in her apartment (that’s it above!). She takes all her vintage fashion photos with the help of her photographer fiance, Josh, against a white backdrop in her living room. And they’re so snazzy!
I hung out with Michelle and Josh last weekend and snapped some photos of their fabulous three-bedroom in Humboldt Park. Enjoy!
Dean Fisher, who writes the blog My Little Apartment, greeted me from the sidewalk outside her Logan Square apartment lugging OJ, a sixer of Modelo, and mish mash of decorative branches and flowers from a nearby floral shop. After big smiles and hellos, we both ambled inside loaded down with our house tour gear.
I was instantly smitten with her space — bright, open, and genial — just like Dean.
Since Dean and I know each other through her talented and hilarious boyfriend, Mike, we got right to catch-up chit chat about life, jobs, and boys while she arranged hydrangea, etc. and mixed us each a beermosa. I sipped the delicious, new-to-me drink and got down to the business of taking photos. And since that’s what you’re all here to see, let’s get to sharing.
Kitchen!
The farm table (family heirloom), industrial stool, turkey feathers from her Dad’s farm, and an amazing set of elk antlers (Craigslist) sort made me feel bad about my standard laminate countertops and wooden bowl of onions.
