What do you get when two awesome ladies team up to run a vintage and handmade hat shop inspired by sparkly things and hair metal? You get Zzouzi Vintage & Handmade! Their collection is bright, fun, and above all unique. Plus, they offer a wide range of sizes and great prices. Check ‘em out in the Winthrop/Lawrence lot at the upcoming TVB August 12.
Since the Zzouzi Vintage collection focuses on vintage clothing, you must wear a lot of vintage on the regular. How do you incorporate vintage pieces into your own personal style?
Kawtar: Incorporating vintage pieces into my own style comes so naturally to me because the majority of my wardrobe is thrifted. I have a growing collection of ’80s high waisted shorts, ’50s circle skirts, and novelty animal sweaters. Although vintage is growing with popularity, I don’t agree with calling it a trend. I think everyone can find a vintage piece that they love and embodies their style because everything modern is vintage inspired. We should embrace the authentic vintage pieces that are being re-made. I don’t really think about the various eras I’m wearing on my body because they’re all so meshed into my wardrobe and everyday life.
Sarah: Same with me actually! My vintage and contemporary clothes work so well together that I hardly think about the decade the piece is from when putting together an outfit. My vintage pieces are so much more unique than my contemporary ones so they’re usually what I turn to if I want to add a little flair to my outfit.
So, for both of you vintage = unique. What sort of questions run through your head when deciding whether or not to pick the piece for your shop?
S & K: We look for individuality! What sets this piece apart from the rest of our collection? What makes it unique? And is it something that we would wear? We love novelty prints, fun patterns, and bright colors.
That’s what I love about vintage, too. What else is inspiring you right now?
Kawtar: People on the street inspire me! Summer is an amazing time because the outfit possibilities are endless and Chicagoans take advantage of this time because we all know, pretty soon our adorable outfits will be covered with huge coats.
Sarah: I’m super into Saved by the Bell these days! I feel like everything Kelly wears is perfect for the Chicago summers.
More after the jump!
I totally love Saved by the Bell! Lisa is my fashion spirit animal. Ha. So, tell us about some of the stuff you’ll be bringing to the upcoming market.
S & K: You can expect a lot of color and prints from us! We always try to find brights for the summer as well as novelty prints. As the summer is draws to an end we will be trying to bring a lot of transitional pieces that can be easily worn in the summer and then layered up for the fall.
Awesome. Can’t wait to see your booth at the next TVB!
