The Aragon Ballroom is an architectural treasure you’ve probably never had the chance to fully enjoy if you’ve only been there for a rock show. I mean, the lights are dimmed at show time and your focus is probably on the entertainment/your beer/a cute dude or lady in front of you. But TVB is going to change all of that this summer as we take residence every second Sunday of the month from 12-5 pm starting June 10.
Exciting bonus!! During the June TVB we’ll be offering free historic tours of the amazing second floor ballroom. No, there won’t be vendors up there this time because we have to work around the no frieght elevator thing, but we will have vendors and cocktails chilling in the lobby plus an outdoor lot at Lawrence and Winthrop full of rad vendors and food trucks! (Do look forward to our version of an awesome backyard party flea up on the 2nd floor the rest of the summer.)
Anyways, during the tours you’ll get to hear all about the build out of the Moorish exterior in the ’20s and the Spanish village that inspired the interior. You’ll hear stories of the heyday of New York night club spin-off the Cheetah Club as well as the roller rink that once lived there. And maybe even discussion of the secret tunnel from Green Mill to the Aragon basement?
I’ll make sure our guide spills all the beans.
Gah! Amazing right? Make sure you come out June 10 to see this stuff in real life.
