So Kylana, tell us about this amazing before-and-after lamp project.
I always wanted a couple of colorful vases for that room, but just couldn’t find anything that fit. The idea of finding and spray painting a thrift store vase came from a recent post on Apartment Therapy. I figured if they can spray paint a chair I can surely find a vase to paint an awesome color to bring out the blues and yellows in my guest room.
I was wandering through the housewares section of a Salvation Army store when the ‘transform a lamp’ idea hit. There are some beautiful lamps that could fit the bill. I just picked one up and looked at the hardware to see what needed to be done. I figured that I would take an inexpensive lamp home and see what I could do with it. If I botched the job, no harm, no foul.
These were fairly easy lamps to transform. Once I clipped the wire I was able to unscrew the hardware that would hold and support the shade and light bulb. Once that was done, I took the items outside to spray paint them (following the instructions on the paint can).
These are just decorative vases. I never had plans to find a spot for flowers in this particular room so I didn’t even attempt to waterproof them.
Whatever. They look awesome.
